REVEREND DR. JAMES H. ALEXANDER

The Reverend Doctor James Henry Alexander serves as the Pastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. A native of Succasunna, NJ, Dr. Alexander matriculated to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Management in 2004. A public theologian, historian, and modern-day griot, Pastor Alexander believes in the interplay between the societal, scholarly, and spiritual. To that end, he has served as a Teaching Associate / Adjunct Instructor at Emory, a keynote speaker and guest lecturer, has been published in The African American Pulpit, the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's Accompaniment to the Revised Common Lectionary, and serves on several non-profit boards. In 2023, James H. Alexander Ministries was established to provide ministry consulting and mentorship services. Nevertheless, he considers community advocacy, mentoring, and advocating for young people to be among his most meaningful endeavors.
Pastor Alexander's ministerial journey is marked by partnerships between the church and community. He was licensed and ordained at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, under the pastorate of the late Dr. Orlando K. Winters, Sr., and has pastored in Newnan, GA, and Greenville, NC, before returning to Atlanta in April of 2024 to serve as the 9thPastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. His emphasis on reframing community involves evolving Mount Calvary from “a teaching church” to “a reaching church” that serves as an intentional partner with the community. To date, Mount Calvary has experienced growth in membership, significant renovations, and outreach, particularly in deliberate engagement with the Adamsville community. Dr. Alexander is married to Reverend Amanda A. Alexander, the Clinical Pastoral Education Program Manager and ACPE Certified Educator at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and they are the proud parents of one active, inquisitive toddler, Lucas James Alexander.
