REVEREND DR. DOUGLAS E. STOWERS

Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Stowers

Reverend Dr. Douglas E. Stowers has been inspiring the Mount Calvary Baptist Church community since joining our congregation.

    Reverend Dr. Douglas E. Stowers is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He currently serves as the pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga.  This is where his lifelong commitment to teaching, preaching, and spreading the word of God began. Over the years at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Stowers has served as a Deacon, Super-intendent of Church School, member of the Christian Education Committee, and President of the Young Adult Ushers. 

Rev. Stowers accepted his calling into the ministry in 1981 and served as an Associate Minister at Mt. Calvary. In 1989, Rev. Stowers was called to the Bethel Baptist Church in Barnesville, Georgia where he pastored for six years.  As God would have it a son of the church comes home to be installed on April 10, 1994 as the eighth pastor of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church

Rev. Stowers is the former President of the New Era Missionary Baptist Convention of Ga., Inc. and is also active in the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. where he is a Board Member and Treasurer of the PNBC Foundation, and formally served on the Audit Review Committee.  Rev. Stowers is the former Treasurer of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc and currently advisor to that position. He is active in American Baptist Churches – USA and served for six years as a General Board Member, and member of the Budget Review Committee. He was a member of the Biennial Planning Committee for 2007-2009, and is the former Vice President of National Ministries now known as (ABHM).

For a number of years he also served on the Regional Board of American Baptist Churches of the South and served as the Vice Moderator of American Baptist Churches of the South Area III. Rev. Stowers is the former Moderator of the Atlanta Missionary Baptist Association, former Moderator of the District Ten Ministerial Alliance, and former President of the Board of Directors for the M. L. King Jr., Drive Community Development Corporation.

Rev. Stowers’ educational background includes the Atlanta Public Schools, Georgia State University and Carver Bible College. In May 1993 he earned his certificate in Theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center. In 1997 he received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the United Theological Seminary and Bible College in Monroe, Louisiana. In 2000 he obtained his Master of Divinity Degree from Morehouse School of Religion, ITC.

Rev. Stowers is the oldest son of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stowers, Jr. (Mary). Rev. Stowers is married to Wanda Elaine Mann Stowers and is the proud father of two daughters, Delita Stowers-Brown

 and Lisa M. Stowers. He is an even prouder grandfather of three grandsons, one granddaughter, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
