Did you know that medications flushed down the toilet can contaminate our lakes, streams and groundwater. This can not only harm humans but wildlife and vegetation as well. It’s better to dispose of expired or un-used medications by taking them to a facility that will safely dispose of them. On Saturday, April 24th from 10AM—2PM, Cobb County will hold a Medication Disposal Event at Precinct One, 2380 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw and at C. Freeman Pool Senior Center, 4025 South Hurt Rd, NW, Smyrna. The medicines do not have to be removed from their containers and labels do not have to be removed. Items collected will be immediately sealed in boxes and destroyed. Staff and law enforcement personnel will be at the locations to collect the medications and dispose of them properly in compliance with federal laws. Accepted items include: prescription, over-the-counter liquid and pill form, ointments, patches, creams, vials and pet medicines. To safely dispose of medications in your household trash: 1. Mix the medication with an unpalatable substance such as dirt, coffee grounds or kitty litter. Do not crush pills or capsules. 2. Place the mixture in a sealed plastic bag. 3. Throw the container in your household trash. Always dispose of your medications safely.
